mary and jill have been friends for ten years. they refer to themselves as the thelma and louise of crafting, and regularly get each other into trouble when they go out shopping together. we're happy to be on their hit list :)

talk about filling a room with good energy....these two made my day recently at the precise moment i needed it the most, just by being themselves. at a clipped pace we shared stories of graffiti art, stencils, bookmaking, paints, blogs, flickr.....all just in minutes! they had to hurry because they were off to go play fiddle together upstairs at steve's.

poulsbo's amazing race

this last saturday night, rubber soul got to play a part in someone's amazing race - the birthday version! we were the stop somewhere in between eating pickled herring at the market, and re-enacting a bunny being chased by dogs to the hare and hound pub. 

there were specific instructions that andrea - the birthday girl - left at our shop for all the different teams...

six teams came rushing in at different times - you could just hear them running up the street

 

and there was quite a frenzy of card making as they sped through their assigned task.

this was definitely the quickest stamping and assembly i've ever seen, and i loved my role as the clue giver for their next task. it was all very exciting. happy birthday andrea, and thanks for including us in your birthday fun!

many many thanks

many many heartfelt thanks to everyone that came to the shop today to make cards for the residents at our local nursing home here in poulsbo. a very special thank you to the woman that was there right when the doors opened and helped get the day off to the right start. and i must add two more special HUGE "thank you"s - one to the beautiful woman that brought a along a bag of cards she made at home to contribute as well as make more cards at our table today, and the very lovely woman that traveled all the way from bellevue (that's 2 hours away!) to create and contribute with her generous hands and heart. each one of you that attended really made our day. thank you thank you thank you. xo

in the spirit of giving

every year, sixteen of them now, rubber soul has sponsored a day, just before christmas, for our customers to drop by and make cards for the residents of our local nursing home. we are holding the event once again this saturday, december 19th from 10-6. we have lots of different stamps, papers and inks available for use.  all we need is you. this is always such a great day - we love seeing all ages of giving souls side by side, creating from and for the heart. so for you local folks, please drop by if you can, and help us put some smiles on the faces of the residents at the Martha and Mary nursing home. hope to see you saturday!

a retromatic christmas

when i was in the planning stages of a new rubber soul christmas stamp release this summer, i thought how cool it would be for the line to have a retro feel, and then i just knew who to ask to draw them - mr. ward jenkins! i love his illustrating and animating style, and saw him as a perfect fit for the rubber soul holidays. he has a great blog which is always fun to check in on, and he recently finished illustrating his first children's book - how to train with a t.rex and win 8 gold medals by michael phelps. bravo ward!

many stamps from the new collection have a distinct holiday feel, but there are also a few that scream cold winter fun, as well as a couple of perfect furry characters. i've had some real fun making cards with these, and there are several stores you can see both the new stamps and cards in now, including all of the paper zone locations in the northwest. i'll be posting some of those cards over the next few weeks, as well as cards from other paper craft artists having fun with the new release. 

i met ward and his totally delightful two kids in the reals for the first time in portland in september, where i got to give them the new stamps - his first ever illustrations-turned-rubber! 

welcome again ward, to the land of rubber stamps, and thank you for the great characters and fun you've added to the rubber soul line! 

new friends

my day was made when these lovely women from out of town visited the shop today. i particularly enjoyed when one was sending a tweet to her twitter about rubber soul, while another was updating her facebook about us. this seriously tickled me, so i HAD to join in by blogging, naturally.  they were on their way to journal fest, a weekend retreat in port townsend. all three of them were so delightful, as you can surely tell by their warm smiles.

the out of towner

we had a delightful surprise guest on friday from one of our great resellers.....

marty's sister is having a baby, so she's in seattle for a spell. apparently she couldn't wait to get her mitts on our stamps in their original habitat :-)  thanks for coming by marty, it was a real pleasure, and best wishes to you and your family!
